The Benefits of Early Rising

It smiled at me this cold morning.
Oh, not with teeth and lips
like we do, but with
streaks of purple and orange.
It smiled and said I am beautiful
and it was.

And, as it smiled
I heard the geese
flapping and hooking
encouraging the strong to lead
and the weak to learn.

Together
the two gave me hope
that I too
might smile
and lead and learn
